Simply awesome

marduke83's picture

i used my TLSE at church for the first time 14th of jan 07 playing lead guitar.. and i was a bit worried about using it at first because in my room i couldnt find a sound i was happy with (i managed to make one that i liked enough to use) but as soon as i hooked it all up through my AD30VT at our church venue... wow, i was blown away by the crisp overdrive and distortions i was able to get, i was thouroughly impressed... so was my worship leader.. he has a boss GT-8 and he was a bit jealous... haha
will be working on a patch that has more gain (for the faster more energetic songs) but overall i was happy.. oh and the clean patchs i managed to get sounded great!

my setup consists of Epiphone les paul custom -> TLSE -> vox AD30VT -> SM57 -> Mixer.

i have added a photo of most of my gear...

Welcome Robert, Glad

Welcome Robert,
Glad you're lovin' your TLSE so much, and especially that you're rockin' for the Lord.

You've got a nice collection of gear. All you need is a P90 loaded axe and you'll almost have the full set !

I'm pretty surprised that you got some great tone from your TLSE, through your AD30VT. Putting a modeller through a modelling amp is not usually a recipe for success. However, having said that, if it works, it works !! Your ears will tell you the truth !
I assume that you are merely plugging the TLSE into the main input of the AD30VT (as they don't have FX loops as standard - although can be modded to get one).
Does your Kustom half-stack have an FX loop ? If so, What do your TLSE patches sound like through that ?
Sorry, lots of questions, that's just me, I'm afraid.
Peace,

Alan

Welcome to the site! I

Welcome to the site!
I played my Gibson 335 thru my TLSE today and was pretty happy!. I didn't get to play lead guitar today, but I was able to add some "crunch" when needed!
BTW, what settings did you have your Vox amp on? How did that affect the TLSE?
Blessings!

hi guys thanks for the

hi guys thanks for the replies smile

alan: yeah im not sure what guitar im getting next... maybe a tele, but i love the gibson explorers, love the tone and look smile
with the tlse, yeah im just running it straight into the ad30's input (would be interested to see how to add an FX loop to it though) but just like you i was surprised that the combo worked well together
i dont know if the kustom has one.. it has an 'insert in/out' jack... not sure if thats the same thing... havnt been able to try it through the kustom yet as the head is playing up..

sirvoltage: haha thats just coincidence (spelling?) but the pic doesnt do the strats colour justice, its more of a purple/blue colour and it looks great with lighting on it wink

steve: i use the tweed 4x12 with the gain turned down so that when you really hit the strings hard it just starts to break up (so pretty much until its as clean as you can get it) but i dont know about the rest as some children after the practise came up and moved the dials on me... haha... i came back and was like "what the...?!? thats not how i left it" sorry i couldnt give more info

chico: thanks mate, yeah im very pleased with my gear, and ive only been playing for 2.5 years... hehe there will be another guitar coming this year, not sure what though...

take care

Rob, This should be a link

Rob,

This should be a link to info about modding to add an effects loop to an AD30VT - http://www.patchtronix.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpBB2&file=viewt... .

The "insert in/out" on your custom is certainly a loop of some type. It all depends where it is in the chain.
If you try plugging the TLSE into the insert in jack. Hopefully, you'll get sound. If your pre-amp controls (ie, gain, and problly the EQ's) affect the tone, then it is a pre-pre-amp insert loop (like on the TLSE, strangely). If the knobs have no effect on the tone then it will be a traditional Effects loop and you are probably plugging in straight to the power amp section.
BEWARE !!! - have your TLSE volume very low when you do this as you may be bypassing all master volume control as well. It could be very, very loud if your TLSE output is high.

thanks mate, i appreciate it, i might look into this mod, looks very easy.. just dont want to void my warranty..... yeah i would try my tlse through the kustom but at the moment the head isnt working... has power but no sound at all, just one day (at a youth service no less) it decided it it would cut out half way through the set..
and i havnt figured out how to pull it apart to have a look at it.. so it just sits there looking good.. hehe.

hey mate, sorry about the late reply..
my guitar sounds great through the TLSE, you do need to find the right tones to suit the les paul though, but overall i love it, (even more so than my Gibson SG) and soon i will be upgrading my LP's pickups to DiMarzio Air Norton for the neck and Drop Sonic for the bridge (ie like John Petrucci) i also use Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom strings (10,13,17,30,42,52), gives it so much more tone and bottom end, sounds great!
again sorry for the late reply, hope its informative smile

oh and to anyone wondering what my next axe will be, Ernie Ball MusicMan 'John Petrucci' Mystic Dream (fully loaded ie piezo pickup, matching headstock colour, sheild fretboard inlays etc etc.) cheesey grin and will be upgrading my amp to a Mesa Boogie MkIV combo

take care and God bless

What are some of your fav settings?

hi steve
nah havnt got the new guitar yet.. when i order it i will have to wait another 3 months while it get made (will be made how i want it) and ive decided against going for the mesa combo, im going to setup a rack with a
Mesa Boogie mkIV rackmount
Mesa Boogie 2:50 PowerAmp
Mesa Boogie TriAxis PreAmp
TC Electronics G-Force
Axess Electronics FX1 MIDI Footcontroller

it will cost alot, but i want to use it for professional recording and gigging later on. so i think its worth it smile

as for tones on the tonelab, i like using a john petrucci tone that someone else on here made, i only use that one at home when playing dreamtheater stuff (i have tweaked it a bit to get closer to petrucci's tone from the new systematic chaos album)
but at church i mainly use a medium gain patch more of a british rock tone for the faster songs, and i made up a fairly clean patch for the slower songs. just have different patches made up for different songs tha use different effects ie delays, choruses etc.

Robb;
That will be a nice set-up!
I use the British tones for most of my rock playing!
For clean tones, I use the Bassman 4x10 and the Fender 2x10's
Does your church have a website?

Hey guys its been a

Hey guys its been a while..
just thought id update you with my gear.
since i last posted i have added 2 Ernie Ball Music Man 'Petrucci' guitars in mystic dream finish (changes colour depending on how you look at it), a Mesa Boogie Mark IV widebody combo which im trying to sell, as it is way too much for what i need (and too little at the same time) i think ill end up with the Mesa Triaxis pre-amp and Mesa 2:50 power amp, TC Electronic G-Major (decided i didnt need the G-Force) and the Axess midi controller. i like to have ALOT of variety and the Triaxis opens up sooo many possibilities.

hotraman: i dont think my Church's site is up at the moment... hasnt been for quite some time.
