OK guys....
Being a worship leader, a big part of my job is to "facilitate" worship. So, a question that must be answered is... "what is worship?". Many times in a service I have heard someone say, "and we will continue our worship through giving"...so, is giving worship? ...not according to the Apostle Paul in the book of acts 17:25 "Nor is He worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things." ... to me, giving to the church is an act of obedience....but wouldn't be in my definition of worship. I will stop here, as I think I've set the question up and don't want to answer it myself...so....what is worship to you?
Peace!

Great question Shawn (yes I
Thu, 2006/12/07 - 1:53pm — hamfistGreat question Shawn (yes I know I should be working on "the" song, instead of cruising the www). It's one of those old chestnuts we will always have fun answering, because there has grown up a colloquial meaning of the word "worship" in church. In church, "worship" has become to describe the musical element of our praise to our creator in the church meetings.
In reality, "worship" is a life's attempt to live for the Maker, to honour Him with our meagre offerings.
Any activity can be "worship". The mandatory thing is the state of the heart and mind, focussed towards the Lord, focussing our efforts and our will into fulfilling His will.
That's enough to start with, I think. Anyone else like to chip in ?

Thu, 2006/12/07 - 5:51pm — hotramanIn addition to playing our instruments for the glory of God,
we should live our lives as an act of worship.
This is a paraphrase of Romans 12: 1, 2 from the Message:
So here's what I want you to do, God helping you:
Take your everyday, ordinary life-- your sleeping, eating, going-to-work and walking around life--- and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings out the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
All of us worship something, or someone. I choose the Creator, the Giver of Life.

Worship is everything you do
Tue, 2006/12/19 - 9:55pm — KennyRWorship is everything you do that glorifies God. Some jam a guitar or play drums while others listen and join in the singing. It not just about music of course. I'm sure you get it now. You are worshiping God by reading and understanding more about worship...

WORSHIP IS LIVING It is
Mon, 2007/01/08 - 6:29pm — AndreasWORSHIP IS LIVING
It is great to find a group of people that already are literally living the answer to their question.
Yes, I totally agree that WORSHIP is a way of LIVING. Worship is praising the Lord, and whenever we do something that praises God/Jesus - or, in other words, whenever we show the glory of God - we are worshipping.
This can be done by everything we do: Playing guitar (my favorite), doing a job or a task well (as if doing it for the Lord), behave in a way that makes God smile ... just as Martin Luther said: "A dairymaid can milk cows to the glory of God" ...
However, I have to admit that I like David Crowder's comment on his LIME CD concerning worshipping using music: "... Make a Loud Noise ..." (Psalm 98:4)

Mon, 2007/01/15 - 9:05pm — josrogeHere's the best on the spot answer I've ever heard provided by the Desperation Band:
Worship is a response to who God is and what he's done, a human reaction to an eternal being... a response to the belief and the conviction of who He is.
to me it is a natural action of surrender to the almighty.

Mon, 2007/01/15 - 10:17pm — gringochrisAmen!!!!!! Josh, I think I like that quote the best although all the other answers have been important parts of the overall answer. Worship is our response to God Almighty which includes gratitude, thanksgiving, and praise for all He is, has done, and will do. It is us being totally and completely in love with Him and expressing that to Him in whatever form it may be. However, I REALLY like worshipping Him with my instrument probably the best and giving what He gave me back to Him. By the way, I'm praying for you too bro'. You guys be ultra-blessed and we'll chat again soon...........Chris
