Hello all:
This is an old familiar question/topic for the W.L.'s lounge.
I would like to hear some comments:
Where is the announcements/offering & tithes take place in your worship services? At the very end? Is there a song or music played during that time? We do this at the end of the service. Our announcements are mainly "all church events." Would like to hear what others are doing.
Thanks
Steve

Our pastor does all announcements, offerings, and tithes after the music worship segment which is first up in the service. After the first song, the pastor or pastor's wife greets everyone to the service. When we are finished with the worship songs is when offerings/tithes are collected. Some quiet keys with guitar is played in the background. Special offerings are taken for missionaries and special situations at any time during the sevice.

Thu, 2006/11/16 - 1:02pm — eyema_believerWe usually start out with a song. I prefer an instrumental song, but only because it takes a while for everyone to get seated...they have kids to get to their class...coffee to get...catching up with friends...so, I prefer to not have a song they are supposed to be singing...it is discouraging to see folks chatting and stretching and standing around the coffe vats etc when I'm trying to lead them in worship...then we have announcements...mostly church stuff...then turn and greet...dimiss older children to the classes....then worship...then offering...then sermon and sometimes a closing song...video clips are thrown in there at different places....I get 20-25 minutes for "worship", apart from the opening song.
What prompts your question Steve??
Peace!

* Worship thru Song: 2 opening songs to fire up and focus folks on worship as they come in the door.
* Worship thru Community: Meet and greet, segue to announcements, multimedia clips, etc.
* Worship thru Song: 3-4 worship songs
* Worship thru Giving: Offering/tithes with instrumental played during giving
* Worship thru the Word: Sermon/Message
* Worship thru Response: 1 song bridging message and closing prayer, 2nd song (upbeat!) to send folks on their way out into the world.

Although I'm not involved
Fri, 2006/11/17 - 6:46pm — AdminAlthough I'm not involved with the worship team right now, here is what they are doing.
Service opens at about 10:00 with pastor calling off announcements. He prays. The offering baskets are placed at the front of the stage so people can come up and drop a tithe in anytime they want rather than passing them around. Sermon until about 11:00. Worship via music until about 12:00.
In the summer they usually switch it up and do worship first. It's always about an hour though.

Aren't you located in Calif?
Our church believes that tithes and offerings are an act of worship, thus included in the closing song, after the message. But lately, I've noticed that when we start to do our last song, people are ready to "enter in" again. Then they get an offering basket coming at them, that kind of breaks them from the "flow of worship.
I think we are going to try do the following: after the message, have another pastor say a few announcments and take the offering at that time. Then, we'll stand and sing a closing song. But, we are always mixing it up at my church... sometimes we do 3 songs in the front, message, and then come back for an extended time of music/worship.
Everyone, thanks for your takes, it helps allot and I would like to see more.

Sat, 2006/11/18 - 9:40am — Will CWe have locked boxes that hang on the wall in the back of our worship space. Similar to a comment box. We too believe that offerings are an act of worship, but we don't pass around plates.
I'm personally all about flow. The worship "mood" is really interupted by throwning in announcements. Our worship leader has "perfected" an order of worship that I personally don't care for, but has worked for our church.

I would like to see us get away from having sharing time. Our church is getting larger and it seems like the same people stand up each time we have it. I think our announcements should be at the very end, after a closing prayer, before our pastor's message, and very brief. That's what the bulletin is for.
It is good to give thanks to the Lord and to sing praises to Your name...For You, O Lord, have made me glad by what You have done, I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands.
