[Reposting due to BJMACOUS patch getting messed up during an attempt to update the attachment with a tweaked/updated version of that patch.]
(recap from the other thread)
I'm one of a few guys who share guitar duties in our praise team at church. I'm running a Carvin Bolt (mahogany body, maple neck, ebony fingerboard with SS jumbo frets, Carvin C22B w/coil splitter, twinblade humbuckers in mid and neck) -> TLSE -> Behringer MDX2200 rack compressor (insert) -> Nady rack EQ (post TLSE, only used to tweak for PA) -> dual XLR lines (stereo) to house PA.
I basically use three patches I've customized...two based off the Jazzman(TLSE) patch and one based off the 'Johnny $'(TL) patch. I'll give a description of each below, what I typically use them for and (of course) post the patches to the patch forum. All of my patches are leveled for +0dB on the level meter on my comp (and the church PA.)
BJMCLEAN - based off the Jazzman(TLSE) patch, except that I replaced the TLSE Comp pedal with the Boutique distortion (off by default), replaced Echo Plus with Stereo Delay, and replaced Room 2 reverb with Chamber 2 reverb. The A Channel amp is the Tweed 4x10 with Tweed 4x10 cab. The B Channel amp is the Black 2x12 with Black 2x10. (A Channel is what I use most of the time...B channel is for when I want to take some of the punch out of the sound.) My favorite pickup combination with this patch is bridge (split-coil) and middle. Being punchy, this is a great for songs with some bounce and twang to them (imagine that tired old round 'King of Kings' with a country-western bounce between muted low E to ringing Em and B7...works great for that, as well as some other tunes like the intro/chorus riff for BTO's 'Let It Ride'...latter played after team rehearsal only, of course. ) On the songs where I need a little dirt, keep the amp and pickups the same, stomp on the Boutique distortion and I've got a nice, bluesy crunch.
BJMSOFT - based off BJMCLEAN patch, except that I replaced the Boutique Distortion and Stereo Chorus with Blk/Org Phase and Bi Chorus, respectively. I did this because I wanted sort of a soft, almost 'spacey' sound of a flanger, but when I started experimenting with the different flangers, they were not the right fit. The Blk/Org Phase has been tweaked to give a light phase feel to it, then I use PARA1 mode Bi Chorus to smooth it out. This patch is not punchy at all, but I use it a lot during quieter songs (or songs that will lead into a quiet moment during the service, like altar calls.) I really like this patch a lot...it's pretty much my staple patch for most of our offertory stuff.
BJMACOUS - based off 'Johnny $'(TL) patch. The default patch has the same amp/cab (Tweed 4x10) for both channels (since it's for the TL). On the Tweed 4x10, this patch has boomy bass and bright highs. For a dreadnought sound (at least to my non-acoustic-background ears), I put the pickup selector for bridge (no split) and mid. For a brighter, more 'Ovation-esque' sound, I use bridge (coil split) and mid. To give a tamer option with less-intense bass and highs, I put the B Channel Amp at the Boutique CL with the VOX AD412 cab. The B Channel sounds a lot less like a 'real' acoustic to my ears, but it is useful for quickly cutting some of the dynamics with a click of my foot. I put Bi Chorus (PARA3) on the control (off by default), but rarely (if ever) use it. This patch gets used mostly when special music singers want acoustic guitar or when we've got more than one guitarist playing...sounds nice to have the acoustic rhythm with a colleague playing lead/rhythm fills on his Tele.
** BJMACOUS UPDATE** I added some mod pitch shift detuning (on the high side) to fatten up the sound. It gives a slight resemblance to a 12-string, but it's still subtle enough to not sound phony. This updated patch also works well on my HSS strat-clone (with twinblade humbuckers in the SS positions) with the 5-way set to the neck position; less acoustic sounding, but it almost acts like a treble boost (without the gain/distortion that the TREBLE BOOSTER pedal can add.)
Good luck!
