TonelabSE / Tonelab patch settings spreadsheet

5thumbs's picture

This is the Excel 2003 spreadsheet I created that lists the settings for all Tonelab and TonelabSE patch settings. Before you ask, there was no automated way I could find to create this spreadsheet, so I created it by going through the patches in the TonelabSE Sound Editor and recording the values in the spreadsheet.

In addition to the default patch settings (which are contained on separate worksheets), there is a worksheet where you can record your own patch settings. I keep a copy of this last worksheet in my TLSE road case and use it during rehearsals to select the right patches for what the group wants to do with a particular song. For those of you who can't get your MIDI connection to your TL/TLSE working, this spreadsheet might prove helpful to those who want to swap patch settings back and forth between the TL and TLSE default patches.

If you don't have Excel 2003, you can download a viewer here.

Thanks and good luck!

You’re all welcome. I

You're all welcome. I created the spreadsheet for my patch configurations a while ago, but just added to the TL/TLSE default patch worksheets/listings when I had the time to do a few here and there. It wasn't as hard as you might think.

5 thumbs; Thanks for this

Thanks for this overview, its helps to be able to see it all of the settings at a glance. If people don't have Excel, its worth getting the download to have this as a reference point.
This will help me be able to tweak the factory patches, so I can have some fun!

This is completely awesome!

This is completely awesome! smile

(You actually beat me to it, I was just going to take on the same sort of project, so you've given me more time to play and tinker!)

How long did this happen to take you, out of curiosity? What setting (margins and stuff) do you use to print this neatly? d'oh

Can't thank you enough, 5... You rule! applause

Talk is for recognizing problems. Being part of the solution takes action...

Great job 5thumbs. I was

Great job 5thumbs.

I was thinking about wrinting a Excel application to read in the
patch files directly and put into a readable format.

I took a few files and compared it to the Tonelab's MIDI format.
There seems to exist some similarities, but the format is different.
I guess the .TLP format is different from the Midi SYX data format.
It's not impossible though to reverse engineer it.
I was tinkering with the format by creating a special patch with
all zero's and named it ABCDEFGH and began tweaking.

Patch title begins on byte $20 (=32)

If we can find out the rest it's a piece of cake to import the stuff in excel or create a readable ascii file from it.

It's easier than reading the stuff from the tonelab editor screen
and typing by hand in excel.

if i understand you, hit the

if i understand you, hit the write twice. Also, the TLSE gives you a "Orginal" message in the middle of your edits.

Time spent? Guesstimates

Time spent? Guesstimates would put it at maybe 6 hours...once again, since it was split up over many nights, it really wasn't that painful.

As for printing, I just set the margins as small as my printer will allow and print it at 100%. I then tile / tape together the sheets and roll it up like a map. The spreadsheet really works best on the screen, but since I don't usually have a laptop nearby when playing away from home, the paper copy gets the job done.

This is pretty cool man.
You wouldn't happen to have one like this but with the desktop TL settings, would you????

The ToneLab default settings

The ToneLab default settings are already in the spreadsheet. smile (Look at the tabs along the bottom of the page. There are three tabs...one for the ToneLabSE, one for the ToneLab and one for you to use for your own Bank/Program settings on your gear.)

Boy... do I feel dumb right now... d'oh

Sorry about that!!!!!

Who's dumber,

Who's dumber, Guillermo...someone making a quick, innocent oversight or the fellow who spent the time reading each patch setting from the TLSE SoundEditor and recording it in a spreadsheet?

(Wait, please don't answer that...I think I just 'self-incriminated' myself on that one.) smile

I'm just glad y'all can use it, which makes the effort all worth it.

Thanks,

I created TLP QuickView with

I created TLP QuickView with a similar purpose in mind. It does read the models from a tlp file and can create a spreadsheet - no manual copy of Soundeditor to Excel necessary. It does not read the detailed settings because I was only interested in the models used in a tlp, but if someone wants to extend it into this direction, it can be done. It is just programming work to do.
