I find the compresor on my TLSE to be well a bit lacking. How do you all feel? If you feel the same what are you uing for compression?
Thanks,
Bill

I haven’t been able to
Thu, 2006/03/02 - 3:00pm — AdminI haven't been able to make it work well for me. I'm not using any compression right now. I haven't gotten around to getting one.
I don’t use it much, first
Tue, 2006/03/07 - 9:52am — jon cardiacsI don't use it much, first time I used a compressor though,
It does colour the sound and give it a different character, whether that is usual I don't know, but that can have it;s benefits...
I play "Under the bridge" by the Chillies and I think I achieve that particular sound on the intro with the Comp and also use it to sustain the D sharp on last chord of verse.
I'll post me patch tomorrow, see what you think.
The TLSE compressor pedal
Sat, 2006/03/11 - 12:45pm — 5thumbsThe TLSE compressor pedal reminds me of the DOD and MXR compressor stompboxes I've used in the past. As long as you don't get very carried away with the settings on the TLSE compressor, it isn't entirely useless...just limited in applications (in my opinion.) Of course, turn the TLSE compressor settings up very much at all and it pumps and breathes like me on the treadmill. Not a pretty sound at all.
Plus, for one of my favorite distorted sounds on the TLSE, I use the AC30 amp/cabinet with either the Treble Booster or the Boutique (Klon) Distortion. If I want to use the compressor with those patches (essential for some Brian May tones like the 'We Will Rock You' solo), I have to use my outboard compressor with the aforementioned TLSE components.
That reason is why I use a Behringer Composer MDX2200 rack compressor in the TLSE insert. It's the only insert effect I use, so I can turn it on and off by turning the insert loop on and off. (The MDX2200 is reviled by many folks who try to use it for studio recording, but I've found that using for guitar with the TLSE, it is much more versatile and transparent than stompbox compressors I've tried.) I never use the TLSE compressor anymore as a result.
Not sure if this helps if you don't want to start collecting rack gear, but I like this setup quite a bit. Not to mention, the MDX2200 and similar variants (Alesis Composer, etc) are much cheaper than the "nicest" stompbox compressors, like the Keeley.
YMMV, of course. Good luck!
