Just some advice please

rojo's picture

I have my TLSE hooked up to my Vox AC30 but the thing with the AC30 is it has so many options for example if i plug into the normal channel it sounds very fat and has the bottom end that i want but lacks in the top end and even if i turn up the highs on the amp and TLSE it still lacks that sweet top end
then if i turn on the brilliance switch WOW the sweet top end is there but gone is the bottom end
if i also try the top boost option that the amp has it sounds great but looses the bottom end
Now i know this Amp and pedal board can do i want and i even thought about hooking up an EQ in the chain but i dont know if that is the answer so if someone could help with some answers that would be great

It´s allways trcky when

It´s allways trcky when going into a amplifier...It collours your TLSE to much. I tried many different amps in my local shop...I lined up a Marshall,Mesa,Vox,Randal,Peavey,Bugera and a Fender to hear the difference and to decide on what amp I should go for. None of the above made it for me, to much mid, highs and no lows.....Then a guy that works in the store came up to me and asked what I was looking for...And told me this...To get the "perfect, real" sound out of your TLSE you have to go thru a poweramp direct to a cabinet. Atomic Amps are great at this. They are very simple with awesome quallity and easy to use. I´ve got a Marshall 9200 poweramp and two 4x12 cabs with greenbacks when playing live and a 1922 cab 2x12 for pub gigs. It´s the same thing as the Atomic only bigger....and heavier to carry around so stick to the Atomic if you dont wanna hire someone to carry your things smile

Good luck! You will not be

Good luck! You will not be dissapointed! There may be some tweaking to do `cause it will sound way different than your Vox.

Download this patch : http://www.tonelab.net/files/OCD%20testpatch.TLP

There´s one clean Fender and one heavy mesa sound in the patch. The patches are dialed in to my rig/ears and will fit the Atomic very well! If you Don´t forget to turn the CABSIM OFF if it´s enabled! In the Atomic there´s a Celestion Vintage 30 (I think) mounted and it sounds killer!

In the U.S., the Atomics are only sold direct from Atomic. He has a specialized Eminence speaker that is rated for 200 Watts (that's right - 200) called the MegaTon. This speaker is darker sounding. It seems to have a very flat sound overall but the cabinet design of the Atomic emphasizes bass output. I also found the amp to be VERY directional. In other words, if you move around a lot you will find that it will change what you hear frequency wise.

Hi Dave
I don't really understand this, so I wonder if you (or anyone else) could try explaining this a little more for me please. You wrote "...I also found the Atomic amp to be VERY directional. In other words, if you move around a lot you will find that it will change what you hear frequency wise."

Do you mean that guitar-players who do not stand still on the stage will hear a different sound depending upon where they stand in relationship to the amp/what angle they are to the amp?

If so presumably that will also apply to the front row audience also and where they are in relationship to the amp?

Any clarifications gratefully received.

Exactly as is described,

Exactly as is described, some amps seem to be too trebly in a certain position, and perfect if you move to the side,or angle the cab differently.

I have a Boogie Nomad 45 as well as my Tech 21, and have to move the amp around to get the best sound, or sometimes change position on stage.

This also applies if you are in the audience on smaller gigs, when you will be hearing the back line as opposed to the 'miked' sound.

I must say though that EV or similar types are particularly guilty of the directional sound.

thanks fingers. you hit the

thanks fingers. you hit the nail on the head. I found the Atomic MAKES you have to find the best sounding spot and stand there the whole time, which does not work for me. I use a Traynor Custom Special with a single Vintage 30 Celestion inside, and it has the largest sweet spot for being able to move in since owning a Line 6 Vetta.

Did somebody here maybe try

Did somebody here maybe try the Weber Beam Blocker or a similar diffusor? See http://www.webervst.com/blocker.html

Any comments on this kind of approach?

I used a plastic lid on my amp over the cone, and it seems to smooth out the high freq's.

there was a discussion on the cones before if my memory hasn't failed me, I believe Chico had mentioned something also, kind of expensive, seems you could make them yourself cheaply, they may have even got the idea from here.
