Hi guys!
It´s been a while....Been busy as h*/l with various projects...but I had to tell ya this.
As you might remember I use the MXR ZW-44 overdrive to push the valve a bit in my TLSE to get a tighter sound. As you also know the lack of an EQ on the TLSE makes the bypass sound muddy and lacks high freqs. I´ve tried several solutions to get a more transparent sound when I´m bypassing the TLSE but nothing worked for me. A friend of mine had a Fulltone OCD 1.4 and I plugged it INFRONT not in the loop of the TLSE and turned the knobs to "boost mode". Volume = Max, Gain = 0, Tone = 3 o´clock. And JEEZZZZZZ! The TLSE got a MUCH more "all valve" amp sound. The OCD is VERY transparet so if you´ve got a patch that you love, no problem, it will only enhance your sound with more attack, sparkling highs and the "all valve" sound we all love. Even the 68 Plexi mod got playable and sounds as close to a plexi as a digital valve modeller can do. I will post a link for some sound clips with/without the OCD later today....If you know someone that owns a Fulltone OCD, try it...You will not be dissapointed...I promise!
EDIT!
The heavy part is recorded With a Peavy wolfgang special bridge pup the clean part is recorded with a stratocaster neck and middle pup. Patch for both Heavy and Clean is attached. First half of heavy/clean is without OCD, second half of each clip is WITH OCD infront of TLSE NOT in the loop. If you connect the OCD in the loop you will loose ALL of the sparkling highs.

Sun, 2008/07/06 - 1:47am — FluehueI´m not sure I understand...If you mean with and without OCD it´s allready there, first half of the heavy/clean part is without and then you can hear the "pop" when the OCD engages. If you mean something else please explain and I will do it for you....I´m from Sweden so sometimes I don´t realy follow...Sorry!
Edit
Do you mean the bypass tone?? If so...A new sample has been added in the topic called ocd test2.mp3 where the bypass tone is recorded without/with the OCD I also added a new recording with the Epi LP in the heavy part instead of the Wolfgang Special. The bypass tone is recorded with the Epi LP Emg 81/85 (Pup selector in middle position) and the clean with delay/compressor and a Boss CE-5 is recorded with the stratocaster (Pup selector in neck/middle position).
oh sorry... yeah I can hear
Sun, 2008/07/06 - 10:17am — mself61oh sorry... yeah I can hear it change in the clean part, had to really listen in the first part though, although not a huge difference it could be that it is more noticeable when live.
I'm not sure but I think my Behringer Mic200 Tube Ultragain is doing the same thing for me, I put it in front so I could split the signal to my G9 and SE before my mixer then out to my Hartke G60c's (two 1x12 tube preamp combos) and once I got the tone clean in the amps it sounded great.
there are up to 5 tubes in this chain, 1 = the mic200, the G9 has 2 (SE = 1) and the Hartke =1.
I was really amazed at the mic200 once I rigged it up because I was only going to use it to split the signal.

I use their cables almost exclusively and am loving the difference.
I have been trying to decide on either the GT-500 or the FullDrive 2 for times when I'm not wanting to use my TLSE. But then I'd need a delay pedal and a wah pedal, and ....

Mon, 2008/07/07 - 7:53am — voulerThe GT-500 looks to be a great pedal for stage work. I have a fulldrive 2, and it's awesome. But I would be interested in checking out a GT-500.
I didn't have very impressive results when I tried using a Fulldrive 2 before the input of a Tonelab SE. I've been using it in the effects loop for some time. However I may give it another shot with the specs on this post and see what happens.
Thanks!!!
There´s a HUGE differecen
Mon, 2008/07/07 - 11:08pm — FluehueThere´s a HUGE differecen if you use the GT-500/Fulldrive2 as a boost only or the overdrive as your main overdrive instead of an ampsim onboard the TLSE. If you take the time to compare the difference you´ll find that if you put the GT-500/Fulldrive2 in the loop you´ll get a muddy sound, The loop is great for a pure boost or FX-pedals because it interacts with the ampsim and get the clarity of the EQ section on the amp you choose to use. If you put a overdrive pedal in the loop and turn of the ampsim you get the "bypass" tone from your guitar into the pedal and then into the cabsim and out...There is NO eq section whatsoever processing the signal before it reaches the overdrive...the sound gets muddy and you can´t do anything about it. If you put the pedal infront of the TLSE you´ll take advantage of the EQ section on the pedal and you´ll get a much richer and sparkling tone into the TLSE and thet tone will interact great with all FX and cabsims onboard.
