Tonelab patches created through a Fender Hotrod Deluxe

noblesse oblige's picture

I am interested in anyone who has spent the time dialing in their TL with a Hotrod. I finally have my rig but am getting frustrated trying to dial in a set of good:

Overdrive
Delay
Clean

I am finding that my volume levels are different when I switch channels due to different effects...any help is appreciated. I am wanting to use this live although at times it feels like the board diminishes the presence of the tube sound that comes directly from my amp.

noblesse oblige, Set all

noblesse oblige,

Set all your patch levels to match your bypass level. You'll get much more consistency. Sounds like your driving the amps imput too hard creating a mush tone vs. the sweet tone you thrive for.

I run mine through a Blues

I run mine through a Blues Jr. on occasion and have been trying to dial in a fat tone for blues with little success. Either I have to much gain and low end flabbiness, or not enough gain and thin tone. I'm still searching for a happy medium. There are limitless combinations with the TLSE (a blessing and curse at the same time!).

I don't rule anything out when I'm making my patches. Even though I'm going into the front of an amp, I still use the AMP and CAB options on the TLSE if it sounds good. Take Chico's advice on evening out your patches. Also, if you are driving you amp's input too hard, try and turn down the TLSE output and turn up your amp's master. Good luck. If I ever get a chance, I'll upload a couple of recent patches that I used for a concert last week. One's a high gain that I think sounds pretty good for soloing and power chord comping.

It's always a dicey

It's always a dicey proposition when you have to drive a preamp with a preamp to get to the power amp. I had a 1974 Champ that I loved, but if i turned up the volume too high it would clip out (brief, audio-less moments of terror).

I took it to a tube amp specialist to no avail.

Nowadays I use a Traynor that's based on a Fender/Marshall circuit with the ability to go direct into the power amp with the TLSE. This is the happiest I have ever been with a rig. I get great grinding tones that I could not come anywhere near close to approximating with the Vetta I owned.
Or the Rocktron ProGAP ultra. Or the Mesa TriAxis. Or... smile
