It's been a while since i've been in here, good to see it's still going strong.
I'm still using the TLSE. My current, most common set up is:
Ibanez Ghostrider > TLSE > Clean channel of Ashdown FA60 (all tube head) > home-made open-back cab with 2x12" vintage 30s
The amp & cab models I use on my main patches are Boutique Clean with no cab (for clean), Recto & V30 (for a relatively heavy distortion) and Vox AC30 with AC30 Cab (for inbetween).
I used to always use the line output into the FX return, keeping the sound coming out of the speakers reasonably true to what was coming out of the TL. Always just dealing with the 'fizzyness' on the higher gain patches, however I mostly use cab sims which are less fizzy than patches without (I read somewhere that they are just EQ curves and not actual speaker sims so are good for tone shaping).
When I tried using amp output into the clean channel I found that I was able
to use the amp eq to smooth out some of the highs, also the amp output it darker to begin with and my tone was a little toppy anyway.
The gain on my amp is set right on the verge of breaking up, the result is a really full, natural tone with a complex overdrive when I really hit the strings on the cleans. I'm pretty damn happy with the distorted sounds, they're not the easiest tones to get from the TLSE but they are definatly in there (that being said, I don't play grindcore or thrash or anything like that). The less 'gainy' overdrive tones continue to blow me away.
TLSE = awesome. I would like to see VOX come out with a TLSE 2, the LE seems to have the right idea, kinda. Just don't take away any of my expression pedals or footswitches (they may not all get used often, but they all have been used) and PLEASE make the insert able to be moved in the chain!
Thats my 2 cents anyway.

I'm down with your last
Fri, 2008/05/16 - 10:53pm — Will CI'm down with your last paragraph! Add a USB and Firewire for direct recording and data transfer too!
I'm curious to hear your tone--do you have any recordings you could post of your three "go-to" tones?

if you could move the insert
Sat, 2008/05/17 - 5:37pm — nomad100if you could move the insert around it would truly make the TL versatile, but would require another A/D & D/A. I'd like to see they add a preamp distortion tube, and raise the sampling rate to 96K. CD quality doesn't cut it! I don't need the usb since i have optical inputs on my tower, and already had a couple midi interfaces.
definatly. I was actually
Sun, 2008/05/18 - 5:28pm — ambientdefinatly. I was actually speaking to the other guitarist in our band (also a TLSE user), saying a second tube for a preamp would be a good idea (cranking the bit rate up wouldn't hurt either). The conclusion I came to was that the TLSE would more than meet my needs until I'm able to afford my dream rig (ie TC Elec G-system, multiple preamps, studio quality rack gear, stereo cabs etc) even then I'd probably still have it in there for some amp models or use it for practising and writing.
The only recordings I have will have been eq-ed and protool-ed somewhat. I'll try get some raw clips down. What's the preffered method? SM57 straight in with a flat eq? Recording direct would kinda defeat the purpose with my setup.
I also agree with your well
Mon, 2008/05/19 - 6:36am — ChicoBluezI also agree with your well explained thoughts. I think Vox is coming out with the new TL series at higher price point that will shake up TL user to purchase. I'm waiting.

my dream rig would be to
Tue, 2008/05/20 - 5:50am — nomad100my dream rig would be to heavy to carry! I'd get a loop switcher and all analog fx. Build a couple preamps and at least one would have PA distortion and feed that into a tube power amp
