i bought a DigiTech gsp 1101 a while back and that was the reason for the question about the SE being used for a midi pedal.
Well... while looking around here I saw a thread about the 4 cable method to hook the SE up. I have a Boogie MKIV and have used Big Blue for just the fx, which has been great but...
I just hooked this thing up with the 4cm and wow!!!!!!!¡¡¡
Change a little here and there and now I can use big Blue in all it´s glory and... my MKIV. (: I can set up a patch that is just the MKIV or turn off the loop and the MKIV comes right up.
if big blue is like the TLLE with the pedal FX post insert i don't see how the 4 CM could be all that great. So does big blue let you control where the insert is in the chain? Are you switching your mesa's preamp in and out an using some of the amp models in the tonelab?
I´m not sure where the insert goes in or out to be honest with you. I have the SE model so I don´t know if that is different than the LE. But...
With the insert I can run my MKIV through Big Blue as Chico calls it, with very, very, very little tone change. This is done through dedicated patch´s on the TL. I have patch´s with different pedals, modulation, delay´s etc. that I can use with the TL. I also have all my patchs from the TL that I can use also. I did have to change volumes on the TL patches, but no big deal.
The truth is I now have the best of both world´s I think.
Originally the 4CM came from the boss units. Where you could put your guitar amps preamp anywhere in the virtual signal chain. With the the tonelab you can't do that, so the only benefit is you can switch between your amps preamp and the tonelab's preamp. The downside is since the insert is before the pedal FX you wont be able to use the pedal FX and your amp's preamp at the same time. My only guess is that maybe the insert return sounds better than the normal input if there is less change to your tone. Since while your amps preamp is being used it's no different than having the tonelab in the FX loop.
1.2 INSERT button
Use this to switch the insert effect on/off. This will be lit if the signal input/output
to the external effect is ON, or dark if it is OFF. The external effect is placed
before the pedal effect.
This is the SE manual on the Insert. As you said it is before all other effects, but, I can still use all of the pedal fx´s, Modulation, delay and reverb.
you can use the "Pedal FX", but they may not sound good. There is a reason the "Pedal FX" come before the amp models. The most obnoxious i've found thus far is using a wah after distortion IMO. Now when i say pedal FX i mean the FX under the pedal knob you might be confused. Mods, Delays, and reverbs all have their dedicated section after the insert and amp models.
Congrats Cellmex!
If it works for you and the crowd does not run AWAY when you are playing and no soundman covers his ears in agony then you've done it!
You are not going to believe

Guitar to TL input TL send

Tl return to amp fx
Tl output R to amp fx
It all works great.

I´m not sure what you mean
Tue, 2008/05/06 - 9:08pm — cellmexI´m not sure what you mean by not being able to use the TL´s fx¿¿¿
if you mean that i can´t use delay modulation and such with my amp, that is NOT true.
I can use all that the TL has to offer.
The little insert button is the trick to everything.
Everything works off of dedicated patches with the MKIV pre amp or without. If I just want my MKIV all I have to do is turn off the loop and...

is the 4-cable method we are
