Using Tap Tempo to control external midi devices (+ hello everyone and the such)

First of all, hi! My name is Luis, I hail from Uruguay, and I'm a novice user of a Tonelab LE. I've owned my unit for nearly two months now so, needless to say, I'm still thrilled about it... Before this I used a very nice Marshall JCM900 amp which I always borrowed from my dad, but alas, I can't go on forever borrowing stuff (plus I've always wanted to have effects to fool around with, yet never got to buy a pedal board of anykind)... so I bought this unit which I've been using in combination with an old Yamaha JX40 amp, and to my surprise, it actually sounds pretty darned good! It might not deliver entirely in terms of loudness, but for now it'll do just fine...

Anyway, after experimenting quite a bit with the tone modeling itself, and having put together a handful of patches to cover most of my guitaring needs, I've started to wonder about "what else" can I do with the Tonelab... Which brings me to the following.

I've grown to be particularly attached to the tap tempo feature (used in tandem with delay, of course), and I'd like to know if it is possible to use that to send tempo information to a computer or a drum machine. (I was listening to Radiohead's latest, which made me wonder how do you include electronics in a band without necessarily using a click track.) I don't know if this is a very basic question or not, but I really have no experience with MIDI, and couldn't find any clues in the owner's manual.

Well, this's gone out of hand. Sorry for the excessively long first post. Thanks in advance and cheers!

Welcome to the site,

Welcome to the site, Pegote.
Regarding MIDI and the Tonelab, I can only comment
on the SE model.
I would think you should be able to link the two together.
But the MIDI instructions are not too clear.
The challenge is finding which MIDI channel 1-16 that
sends out this info.
It may take time, but you can't do any harm by expirmenting.

I have an SE and miss having

I have an SE and miss having the dedicated tap tempo button, though I know I can set the control footswitch to always be this for me.

I would suggest getting a small MIDI pedal that can send the tap tempo instruction to both the drum machine and the ToneLab simultaneously.

Thanks for the comments! I

Thanks for the comments! I guess I'll have to bust out the old TR-707 and hope... something... happens...
