Hi.
I was looking at the back of my amp (for some strange reason) and i saw that i had effects loop (Send, Return L/R). I was wondering, what works best, to go ... Guitar -> TLSE -> Amp .. or ... Guitar -> Amp -> TLSE (In effects loop). I've had it set up the first way since i got the TLSE but I'm not sure which way to do it. And if the effects loop is the best way to have it set up what should I do to my TLSE patches so they work perfect.
Cheers

Hi I use my TLSE in my amps
Wed, 2008/04/30 - 12:06am — sv-erikHi
I use my TLSE in my amps effect loop when I want to use TLSE as a preamp.
Just try it, and let your ears decide what they like best, it's a well known way of doing sound research

Wed, 2008/04/30 - 4:12am — sv-erikThe big secret is to obtain a setup where you can live with both the live sound and the recording result. I have dedicated an old notebook and a MidiSport 2x2 to my TLSE, then I can fiddle with the sound when we rehearse, and then go home and try the patch on a direct recording through my sound card.
To me patches are personal, I don't mind giving/sharing mine, but it's rare for me to find one from another person I can use proper.

Wed, 2008/04/30 - 5:24am — countryteleHey,
For me it would really depend on what amp it is your playing throughas obviously amps are all unique as far as gain levels through the send/return or the normal input. For me, I have a fender hot rod deluxe that also features the loop setup. However I have a more complex setup involving stomps and the tonelab. As far as the tonelab I've found the best through the normal input not through the loop as Ive found the tonelab tends to over power the amp. But who knows, depending on your amp if you play around with the level adjuster on the back of the tonelab you might tweak it a bit and see what happens.
Hopefully thats of some use,

LeatherFace, What sounds
Wed, 2008/04/30 - 7:49am — ChicoBluezLeatherFace,
What sounds best is the right way.
Country Tele,
My experience is like yours. I prefer the imput for combos (2 tweed Fender Blues Deluxes) over the power amp inputs. Having global (amp) EQ helps for the quick tweek.

CountryTele, How is it that

How is it that you hooking up your Tonelab? Im not sure I understood your setup.

Wed, 2008/04/30 - 10:40am — ft_hummermy experience is that the tonelab sounds better through the amp input than through the fx loop. I own an engl screamer 50 combo and the fx loop sounds fine with the clean channel but with the lead channel the effects sound horrible. If you want to use your amp's multiple channels, I would suggest not using the TLSE. If you want to run the TLSE as a preamp than hook it up into the amp's input. I now use the TLSE when i go direct to the board with no amp. When I gig with my Screamer I take some stomp box effects, which enables me to use the amp's various channels.
Hi Ok my point wasn't clear
Wed, 2008/04/30 - 10:45am — sv-erikHi
Ok my point wasn't clear at all I see, I only use the line-in in the effect-loop, that way my amp only become poweramp, and that works fine for me.

I go straight into my guitar
Wed, 2008/04/30 - 1:04pm — hotramanI go straight into my guitar amps with the TLSE.
Didn't care for playing it thru the effects loop.
Lost the TLSE sound.
Hotraman, What you mean you
Wed, 2008/04/30 - 2:52pm — gretsch_manHotraman,
What you mean you lost the TLSE sound? Did you find it that by going through you amp input you tone was colored? what amp/line setting you play through since your going through amp input?
My amp (a Traynor Custom
Wed, 2008/04/30 - 6:31pm — firebrandMy amp (a Traynor Custom Special 50) has both an effects loop and a preamp out/power amp in loop. The effects loop is after the first gain stage but before the second with a master mix control and an effects level control for each channel.
The preamp in is right before the power amp stage of the amp. I leave my TLSE set to Line (I like the extra high end gain) and go into the power amp in. I do not patch it with the Preamp out, as it would make 70% of the pedal effects useless (or at least sound that way to me).
If your amp is solid-state then you do not want to use your effects loop at all.
if your amp is solid state
Wed, 2008/04/30 - 8:22pm — nomad100if your amp is solid state you should throw it away!
On a serious note i like mine threw the power amp in, just have to have a good speaker in the combo amp.
That's the truth. My combo
Thu, 2008/05/01 - 6:43am — firebrandThat's the truth. My combo came loaded with a Celestion V30 Gold Label. Yowza! What a sweet sound. I have owned about 15 combos and 6 or 7 cabs-only in my time, and the Celestions always make me the happiest with what I hear.
I've been using the direct
Thu, 2008/05/01 - 9:24pm — PegoteI've been using the direct input, since that's what everyone says it's best for amp modelers... however, while this works fine on my crappy Yamaha JX40 (a poor old transistorized thing from the early 80s), I'm still wondering about what's going on with the Marshall JCM900... Everything is excessively bright, which gets really annoying in band situations... (and yes, I'm using the "correct" AMP/LINE setting, and even if I used LN2 I'd have to set the treble frequencies really low... like -15 or something)
Just so this doesn't sound like a thread hijack (
), I brought this up due to sv-erik's comment about using his SE through the effects loop input. Do you think the direct input might be coloring my signal?

Fri, 2008/05/02 - 8:40am — gretsch_manLeatherface,
If you are going straight into your Amps input what amp/line setting are you using?
Pegote,
I used my TTLE last nite at band practice and found the same problem. I went dricetly into a mixer and my tone was super bright, I changed the setting to AMP2 and it work out fine. When I run it in my amps effect loop I use Line2 which seems to work fine. I find that my settings very depending on the setup I am using. But the nice thing is that with the TTLE I dont have to surf menus to make a simple change I just dial it in.
Cheers!

Fri, 2008/05/02 - 5:38pm — nomad100i find the LE to be on the dark side and often have to boost highs and sometimes mids. I've read that the output level changes tone. I've never had a problem with brightness going straight into my DAW.
