I was talking to a valve expert and he was telling me to try a JSC Svetlana Winged C 12ax7 in the Tonelab SE or LE
he said that he had replaced the stock valve in some of these units with one of these and said the sound was better, more bottom end and smoother tone
so i just would like to know has anybody tried one of these valves yet as i am keen to try
and thats not to say that the Tonelab SE or LE sounds bad just my ears tell me it could sound better in some areas but this has been talked about many times,
also i hear the Boss GT 10 is about to be released so i will be interested to hear that

There could be some truth to

I changed my tube to a JJ Au7 some time ago.
It did make the high gain a little smoother, not so brittle.
But I've read that changing the tube in a LE is near impossible to do.
The GT 10 may be something to look at... will it be a major improvement?
I think it all depends on
Fri, 2008/04/04 - 2:22pm — mself61I think it all depends on how critical of the tone you are getting from the SE (or LE), if you are going to use it for high quality recordings and live playing which a lot of SE/LE users do you might want to experiment with this. some say there is a bit of difference but overall most people (the average audience) will not notice that much, as Chico wopld probably say, the proof is in the Bacardi 151... or was that in the pudding ?, well whatever, he meant in how well one plays.

Before you do any of that,
Sun, 2008/04/06 - 1:08pm — firebrandBefore you do any of that, calibrate the tube to the best of your ability by following the instructions in the "service guide" on the home page of tonelab.net.
It made a huge difference in my ToneLab desktop for the time I got to use it (I have since sold it and now have an SE on the way).
