Back in ToneLab country again!

After NOT being satisfied with any other replacements for my ToneLab desktop, I began the hunt for an SE. As of this writing, I managed to locate one for $200 with carry case. We are working the final details out now and I should have it next week.

In the mean time, I have been using a DG Stomp in the effects loop of a Traynor Custom Special 50. It works very well (I am only using the FX, not the preamp or speaker sim), but I see an onslaught of pedals that would be added should go that route. As it is I now have the 2 button channel switch for the amp, a volume pedal, a wah, and the DG Stomp in front of me. What makes it even harder is the DG Stomp either allows me complete navigation from patch to patch or on/off forf the effects from the buttons, not both. So the DG Stomp is a glorified set of pedals all in one box that I still have to turn knobs on unless I add a MIDI pedal...

Vox made a great design with the SE. I don't like having it all on the floor, but I do like the abundance of knobs way better than the layout of the LE. Getting it for the average sale price of the VC-12 helps too. Should I need to edit in real time, I will just bring my laptop to the gig.

Hey Dave; Welcome

Hey Dave;
Welcome back!
That's a great price for your Big Blue.
Most of them sell for $300.00 +
on CL and EBay.

Welcome back! The first

Welcome back!

The first thing I noticed about the SE vs Desktop was how much better the SE sounds. My friend owns a Desktop and no matter how we try it sounds way of the SE with even settings. I know you´ll be satisfied!

Thanks! Now I am even more

Thanks!
Now I am even more jazzed about it. I have to wait a week longer than originally planned due to the original power supply being damaged. So the seller has ordered another from Guitar Center. I will list my "secret" to finding ToneLab SE's for less after this one is safely in my possession smile

No, but I did find a couple

No, but I did find a couple good deals at one before they started pricing everything musical at street price vs. used price. I bought an "original" Ibanez Universe (black) for $500 at one. The guy who owned it wanted it back so bad he traded me a Mesa TriAxis for it. He ended up trading it off at a gutiar shop downstate an they gave him $375. 9 years later I sold the TriAxis for $900.

you should be able to

you should be able to control the dg stomp with the tonelab's midi commands shouldn't you?

Yes, I could. My idea is to

Yes, I could. My idea is to have less buttons, cables, and power connections to make. Plus I found the "amp controls" to still be active while the preamp/cabinet modeling is off. This proved in my "current" configuration to be great for some tones and less-than-exciting for others, especially the Presence and Mid controls. The SE has "just enough" for what I am wanting to do at this time so I am happy. The only thing that I may add later is a good outboard overdrive pedal so I can use other pedal effects in the ToneLab.

The ToneLab SE should arrive by end of week.
So how did I find the deal?

I googled. My search query was "ToneLab SE craigslist". I found 3 TLSEs at this price point, 2 of which sold only days before I started looking. Many were still offering theirs at $350 or $375 (about $75-$100 more than the average eBay price). I encouraged the seller to open his own PayPal account, and sent a deposit with the balance coming upon receipt of pics and his purchase of a new power supply for it. I gave him $30 to send it Priority and an extra $5 to offset PayPal fees.

Now all I need to do is find a band to play in with regularity again smile

Pawnshops suck, at least one

Pawnshops suck, at least one that is around me, they are asking list prices for used stuff and I dont mean the regular price you pay new at GC or SA. I bought an accoustic cheapo bass (the Dean Playmate) for 120 from MF with free shipping, the pawn shop wanted 229, I think I'm in the wrong business 8D .

I hear that!!! The one sown

I hear that!!!
The one sown the road from the shop I manage tells you the "list price" and "our price" on all the guitar equipment. Example, they have a version 3 pandora for $25 less than I can buy a version 4 new! Even on the Nintendo games (not super, just Nintendo) they want $30-$40 depending on the game. As a guy on TV says "Give me a break!"
