ChicoBluez's picture

Just paid for it today! I hope Santa stays away from the sauce long enough to get it to me in one piece.

Chico Another one?!?!?!?!?!

Chico

Another one?!?!?!?!?! Hey - I understand completely. The SG is a great guitar - you can get a wide tonal range.

How about getting all your geetars into one picture and posting?

Kieren,

Yes, I will post them.

This concludes my guitar shopping for the year 2007.
It was a great year for the guitar at my house. 5 guitars in 6 months. I need therapy. sad

2008 will hopefully bring me the PRS Custom 24 Vintage Amber Flamed Maple 10 top w/birds inlays for my 50th birthday from my wife...if I still have one. beat up

never mind my other post

never mind my other post this answers my question. you and me both Chico.. I got 3 myself after my ESP around March, adding other stuff I got my MicroKorg synth and another Hartke GT60c to go stereo with. Credit cards are not helping making it harder to get these things as I just got my EPI Cherry Burst +top LP on 14 months no payment or interest which I will more than likely pay 50 a month on anyway.

Bingo! It's a Tokai!

I was in Flint, MI. for Thanksgiving and stopped at the GC to try out a '61 Gibson SG reissue. List $1,800...out the door $1,200 w/ case. I did not catch a vibe from the Gibson or the price.

Owning 2 Tokai Les Pauls, I'm very comfortable with Tokai's quality and price. Both purchased used from ebay. I wanted to buy a new SG and got the pictured one for $649.00 + $120 shipping with gig bag to be shipped from Japan.

No...not a Gibson..still a fine instrument and pretty too!

Chico, Very Nice! Is this

Chico,

Very Nice! Is this your first SG? I have been wanting one ever since I bought the Agile SG 6/12 doubleneck. I was thinking of buying the Agile version but I may go with a Tokai if I can find one as nice as yours.

I was looking at those Agile's and was wondering if they are as good as they look, for their price I cant beleive they are that great but it sure looks tempting, this is what I was looking at...

LD, I owned a Cherry Gibson

LD,

I owned a Cherry Gibson SG back in 1973 and was in love with my first "real" guitar (guitar before I found in the garbage and had my uncle repair it.) The guitar was stolen and replaced later with a Black Fender Strat (my first Fender.)

There are Tokai SGs availible now on ebay (where I got mine) new for the price I paid. Possibly more expensive than the Agile. IMHO, once you get away from name brands you open yourself to some vey descent options. There's something kinda funky about owning Tokais and explaning to people that it's a replica, not a copy.

Monte,

Yes! I have considered that very guitar after I saw Alex Liefson in Tampa wailing on a LP with the Floyd Rose. I will certainly still pick one up. I am delighted with my Agile 6/12 and the quality of the fit and finish is no better or worse than any Gibby or Fender for 1/4 the price. My friend also has a lefty Agile LP 12 string that is superb. I think you should go for it. You will not be disappointed and the folks at Rondo are easy to work with. My 6/12 case suffered a little road rash from shipping and they sent a new one straight away.

Chico, I agree, I do want to enter the Tokai cult as well. I have more or less satisfied my 335 craving with picking up my Conrad copy (several good ones on Ebay right now) so I think the SG fix is next.

I'm really stunned by the price of that Agile, 250 just makes me think it must be a really cheap piece of carp, but looking at the picture it really looks nice, I really don't need another axe so I'me hoping that they will still be around when I find some more SPACE to put my carp.

FWIW, I've used the SX line

FWIW, I've used the SX line from Rondo Music in a past build. (The SX brand is the low-cost version of the Agile line.) Out of the box, the SX strat-clone was in good, very playable shape. Of course, I proceeded to replace everything except the body, neck, nut, frets and strap buttons, but it was pretty impressive for a $100 guitar, even before I gutted it and tweaked it to my tastes. Tone-wise, it sounded much better to my ears than any Squier Tele or Strat in that price range. Other than the 16mm pots, it was actually wired to the vintage Fender Strat wiring spec (GASP...maybe Squier should give that a try... 500K pots in a single-coil Tele. *shudder*) The body is solid 3-piece alder (not plywood), which isn't usually the case with guitars in this price range.)

I've been considering pickup up an Agile LP-clone (Agile AL-3000M CSB Slim Neck: http://www.rondomusic.com/product1066.html.) It's a slim neck LP-clone with a 3/4" maple top, 2-piece solid mahogany body and everything you'd expect in a Gibson LP...except the price. The Agile w/slim neck is $450 + shipping (and $370 for thick-necked AL-3000MAP CSB), which is about the same price as the Epi LP Standard (except the Agile has an all-maple top, whereas the Epi has an alder top with maple veneer.) To compare the specs of the various Agile LP-clones, go here: http://www.rondomusic.net/alspec.html.

I probably won't pick up the Agile until August, but I'll report back with my findings when I do.

sv-erick,

The SG is the perfect guitar. I played my first show with one and remember such a superb experience(not to mention the girls).

You can play effortlesly in highest register of the neck, very low weight, and the curves on the body are sexy. Did I type girls and sexy in the same post?

I waited 34 years for another SG. Truthfully, it's a miricle I'm still alive and enjoying the guitar, any guitar, just as much as day one.

Thanks,

Yeah... thats one drawback

Yeah... thats one drawback on my EPI LP, hard to reach the high registers worried hard to do those Randy Rhoads leads with no thumb support, thats where my ESP Vipor 400 comes in handy cheesey grin
I was playing the EPI through the G9 tonight and was surprised on how good alot of the patches sounded with it compared to the ESP, I think my ESP PU's are just too much output for a lot of patches so I have to turn the Guitar volume down. that may be cause for a mixer in front of the TL and G9 for my guitars maybe.

Chico;
do you find your patches need minor tweaking from guitar to guitar? Strat vs SG?

ChicoBluez's picture

Steve, I'm at nirvana with

Steve,

I'm at nirvana with my patches. Whatever I plug in is going to sound pretty sweet. As you well know, this did not happen overnight. News Flash! I did my last gig straight to the board from the TLSE and was quite satisfied applause . Will try again this weekend and maybe just for smaller shows in the future.

Strat and the SG share much of the same spectrum EQ wise. I think the lack of the maple top (as is the case on a Les Paul) has alot to do with it. Strat to Les Paul may require some patch tweaking. I've learned to dedicate separate pathces for guitars that are not in the same EQ family or require more punch like the single coil Strat. In reality, I usually play whatever thru whatever and if the Strat sounds a little thin for solos, I kick the Eric Clapton 25db mid-boost and let the flame throwing begin.
