Help Worship Leaders!

ChicoBluez's picture

I was asked by my Pastor to plan on getting in rotation for leading worship at my church. I'd like to hear from the worship leaders here if there are blues or rockin' blues based worship tunes or artist I can research.

Thanks in advance,

LINCOLN BREWSTER!!!!!!

LINCOLN BREWSTER!!!!!! Check out his "All to You" Album. I would also recommend his "Let the Praises Ring-The Very Best of Lincoln Brewster" second for an all around sampling of some of his more "popular" tunes.

Ditto on the Lincoln

Ditto on the Lincoln Brewster! You can hear lots of SRV influence in his playing. Also check out Third Day for great southern rock tones. And from the other side of the pond, Delirious has British rock sounds and outstanding lyrics. Some other favorites: David Crowder Band, Mercy Me, Tim Hughes, Chris Tomlin, and Ross Parsley.

Ditto on Lincoln Brewster as well.
Check out Tommy Walker for great blues, jazz & gospel worship. He leads on electric as well.
There is even a "Gospel" blues society up here in the NW. I may look into it, as I'm trying to put together a blues band to play out.

Hey guys! Thanks for the tips!!

My worship leader had no clue that the pastor asked me to prepare to lead. Since I mentioned it, I've been getting a slight "cold shoulder" from the worship leader and the topic seems taboo. I know how the enemy works and will bring up the topic again. No test...no testimony! praying I'll keep you guys posted. Off topic....I picked up Bill LeClaire on keys. He also does shows with Wayne Baker Brooks. Bill LeClaire can play as well as Billy Preston (may he RIP).

Another person had chummed

Another person had chummed up to the worship leader at my church at the time transition was going on, knowing the worship leader would be pastoring a new church 50 miles away. All the while, I knew I would end up being picked by the pastor. That person end up running sound, leaving the church when the worship leader returned and still did not give them the position. Now they are at another church down south. Running sound.

Oh my, I don't think I would

Oh my, I don't think I would want a "bitter" sound man doing my mix. Forget about getting a nice guitar tone!

Will C's picture

I wish it wasn't like that.

I wish it wasn't like that. I'm just now getting involved at a church since we moved, and I asked them, "where do you need me? I can do such and such. Where can I be of service?" Just imagine how much impact the church would have if everybody had a servant's heart... sad

Will C, truer words were

Will C, truer words were never spoken... I've been both sound person and worship leader, those two positions go hand in hand, yet it's amazing how territorial those two positions become. It takes a lot to make it work. If it gets hard in the church for people to work together... you know the rest.

Hi Everyone,

I am not a Worship Leader perseay at my church but I started a youth band on the side. We play a lot of Chris Tomlin, Desperation Band, Hillsong United, Salvador etc. Have any of you W.L guys gotten into that type of music? If so are you running your Tonelab to match the guitar sounds? Can you share your experience?

Im not to bad but it always good practice to talk to others who can shed some light.

Thanks.

My preference on the TL has been the AC30TB for church stuff. To me it comes across very warm like a mic'd amp similar to the church bands mentioned above. You can hear examples on the address below.

Hi Tbyrd,

You got some awesome sounds clips. What type of amp you running? Do you play for a church band?

Thanks for your kind words.

Thanks for your kind words. I play direct to the PA and yes I play in our P&W band at church. To get the tones I like, I record a clip of the tone I want to copy and then record my guitar behind it. I then compare and tweak as needed. If I don't compare with something else, I tend to get way off track. For leads I use a boss 7 band eq and set it up with a 3 to 6 db boost.

The Answer to the Question

I'm really looking forward to the direction that authorship is taking in the worship songwriting process at this time. We need more sincere, real, rocking worship music that doesn't settle for less spiritually or musically. And I think there's a movement of this growing.
