How doI run TL into my combo amp?

reason's picture

FOr maximumsignal without distrortion, how do I run my TL into my amp please?

Ive got my TL and am very pleased withit.Since I came from a KORG AX1500G it was very easy to get to grips with it, although the TL has a lot more features.I nailed the "Waterfall" tone by The Stone Roses,BlackFace 2x12, chorus, small delay and a tiny reverb, and Im very happy with the warmth of the sound.

Reason, I've had my TLSE for

Reason,

I've had my TLSE for over a year and am still messing around with where to put it. Not because it's not good, but because I'm so A.D.D. about my sound. A lot depends on your amp, your goals with your TLSE and amp together, and your prefered tone. I've found that my TL sounds great just about anywhere I use it, with some minor tweaking, i.e. cab sims on/off etc. But all of these parameters shape YOUR sound, no one can tell you what YOU think sounds good.

For maximum signal without distortion, you just need to be careful not to overload your amp's input, or whatever you're plugging into. Turn that knob up on the back of the unit as far as possible without distorting while you're in bypass mode. I run mine about 3/4, but I can crank it to 100% without distortion on my setup. Once you find that, level all your patches with the gain/vrgain/channelvolume controls to achieve your desired level. This should help you, but don't be afraid to experiment with this thing. I get enjoyment with searching for the sounds in my head.

You could also do the opposite and crank your amp without distorting and then raise the TL level to your desired volume.

Two tips, get a midi connection like the MAudio Uno, and use the sound editor if you haven't already. They are way cool.

Will, on my combo amp, I run

Will, on my combo amp, I run my TLSE into the "effects return" input. That way the sound of "Big Blue" is what is being highlighted, not the particular amps sound... mark (hp)

I totally agree Mark. I do

I totally agree Mark. I do this to preserve the TLSE's amp sounds. I guess I didn't mention that in my original post. Sometimes I keep the cab sims off depending on the tone I'm going for. But I get bored easily so I like to mix it up and experiment with different setups e.g. TL in front with or without amps on.

I am unable to get my Uno to

I am unable to get my Uno to work through my USB port. I have tried loading the drivers and when I fisrst power up the editor it says that the cables or interface are not working correctly. I have tried both USB ports and switched the in out cables into the tonelab to no avail. I have reloaded the drivers several times to no avail. The blue mouse looking device on the UNO has only the green USB light on, the other two lights for in/out are not in. Any tricks to making this work?

From the output of the TLSE

From the output of the TLSE my chain is as follows:

TLSE out
clean boost/sustainer (not that much sustain)
Sonic Stomp
Skip amp pre
Tube power amp "in"

1. The booster lets me keep the TLSE output below it's noise threshhold.
2. The sustainer frees up the TLSE distortion box models.
3. The BBE sonic stomp adds a little chime on top while subtracting some of the loose flubby low end. This effectively extends the range of usefull settings in the TLSE.

4. A lot of folks use an EQ before or after the TLSE to either boost the signal or adjust the overall "voice" of their chain. For instance, for a given patch, changing the guitar(pickups) or changing which amp I use (fender, peavey, PA) alters the sound of the very SAME patch.

5. For Blues and classic rock you know you are in the ballpark when changing your guitar knobs renders more than one usefull, but different tone.

I do kind of wish the TLSE

I do kind of wish the TLSE had a built in EQ on the output though, cause that way you can change all your EQ settings and save them with the patch. Cause if you have an external EQ when you change patches to say do a lead, then the patch would need different EQ settings..

For example when I play live at worship, I try my best to have one patch sort of do it all. I try to stick to it using my neck pickup, cause if I change to the bridge, my patch would sound totally different. Right now Im trying to figure out how to have everything sound just right even if I change to brigde pickup.

Best,
Musikman
