Could Not See Bank And Program Numbers!?!

Tingly's picture

This isn't really a "bug," so I didn't want to post it in that section.

I recently performed at an outdoor picnic with my band. 'Had my SE all programmed and ready to go. It was hot as heck. It eventually hit 93 degrees, during the gig. But, as soon as the show was about to start, I realized I had a slight problem!

After all my hard work on the patches, I could not SEE the bank and program numbers, because the sun was shining directly on my ToneLab! It was SO bright out, that even when I tried (clumsily, with a guitar) kneeling down, and shading the display with my hand, with or without sunglasses, I could not see the darn numbers.

This was sorta bad because, on some songs in the set list, I had not written the program NAME, I had only written "1/3," meaning "bank 1, program 3." Like any band, we pride ourselves on keeping the show moving, so we only take a few seconds between songs, and I was doing the background vocals, too, so I was in trouble, quickly.

I had no problems with the songs where I had written down the full program name. I could see the write/exit display section fine, and take a moment to quickly tap through the names to find what I needed. Moral of the story: from now on I note the program NAMES I plan to use, as well as their bank and program number location.

Anyone else ever run into a "brightness" problem, or readability issue, in relation to any of the TL displays?

there has been a few who have posted about this before, you can change the brightness of display on the TLSE but I'm not to sure if it will help much and on the patch bank LED's don't adjust. I never wrote down the banks, but when we jam I had setup the patches in order by the name of the songs, even if I switch from crunch to lead and back to crunch It would be setup say 1:01 , 1:02 , 1:03.
1:04 may be empty and 2:01 will be second song... and so on...
never played in bright sun though.

Ditto, this has been a real bummer for two recent outdoor gigs. LCD patch readout not too bad, but the tuner is MIA in any kind of light situation. Guess I will need to rely on an analog external tuner in the future.

Same problem at one of my recent outdoor shows. Sun is the enemy. I switched gits whenever one got slightly out of tune as to not dely the show (I talk to to crowd during qiuck tune sessions). I also had a roadie hold cardboard to make shade if I wanted to continue using the same git and tune.

No fun in the sun!
