TLSE casualty...Selling it !

gsouth's picture

I have tried to like this thing....some days I think it is great, but man I have been trying to "get comfortable" with the TLSE for months and I am convinced I can never use it on stage as I can never get that comfort level state of mind that I know what is going on. Somedays I wonder who is in charge, me or the Tonelab. Anyway, I am going to put on for sale, Anyone interested let me know. Mint condition with TLSE padded bag and manual. You can email me at gene.south@tx.rr.com

Sorry to hear that the tonelab is not for you. I have thought about going back to pedals, but just thinking about batteries, cables, unable to prgram various setups and recall them at a moments notice, all that versatility, just makes me wanna keep tweaking my tonelab more and more. The more I play it, the more I learn it, the more I realize what a blessing this pedal is. I love the tone I have found for my music, and this I found with the help of other forum members through their awsome programming skills.

It's too bad that you couldn't get comfy with it. I may have a buyer for it. How much would you want for it?

I rehearse and gig with the ToneLab and my Fender Strat, through a Fender Blues Junior amp.

One of the keys to getting "comfortable" with the TL, especially in the gigging situation, is to "simplify" your approach.

I have to give credit to a friend of mine. He is an experienced guitarist, using a Pod system, and he explained how each of his four pedals were always arranged, left to right: 1) clean, 2) slightly distored, 3) more distorted and 4) heavy reverb and effects. I realized I could use a similar system on my TL.

I didn't use his exact method, but I did "simplify" my approach. I began naming programs "WAHCHOR" (Wah and Chorus) or DIS DLAY (Distortion and Delay), after the effects that would be activated with the control button, and expression pedal 1. (Expression pedal 2 always controls my amount of reverb.) That way, by the patch name, I knew what to expect, whenever I pressed a button, or pedal.

I also evened out all the volumes on the programs I would use live, so that one program wasn't louder than another. I also recorded all (35 or so) settings for every original program that I created. It took a long time, but paid dividends in getting to know the ToneLab, and being able to tweak it, later, where needed.

Lastly, I boosted the volume on the B channel of every one of my original patches, so, I just switch to the B channel for my solos, and my volume jumps well above the rest of the band.

Once I found a program I liked for a particular song, I wrote it right on my chord chart, or the set list. As the band came to that song, in the show, I would quickly tap in the correct bank, and program number, and be ready to go.

It's worked out well, and allowed me to play out with the TL. I recently got compliments for my guitar solo on the song "Last Kiss" (it's about a dead girl--sorry), because I used a real wild heavy reverb, controlled by Pedal #2 (Reverb Settings: Type HALL 1, TIME 6.9, LO DAMP 0.0, HI DAMP 1.7, PRE DELAY 0.0, MIX 0.0).

People said my guitar solo sounded like it "came from another world," which was very appropriate!

Gene...you should download

Gene...you should download the MESA BOOGIE RECTIFIER patch that is posted in the ROCK SECTION by ERIC MEYER. If you play it with a bridge pickup (humbucker) you get a great metal sound and if you're heavy on the right hand then you can even get a good Van Halen sound and if you use the neck pickup you get a great neo-shred sound/soulful lead sound. Try it and let me know your thoughts.
