Hello everybody,
One thing I have found is that I always turn to the Vox settings on my SE to get the sounds I want. Is that because they sound better or is that what you would expect from a VOX modeller. So anyway, it seems to me that I have to get me a real amp!!
Right now I'm contemplating the AC50CPH.
Anyone out there got one yet or know where I can check some audio clips.
I'd love to hear about anyones experience with real Vox amps.
Anyone got a Vox amp, especially the AC30 CC or AC50/100CPH.
Help much appreciated.
Cheers
Jon

Mon, 2007/08/13 - 7:21pm — mself61theres a few guys around here that have some "prefered" rigs, If I were to go buy a "REAL" amp for some serious gigging I'd look at Chico's rig and probably wouldn't be swayed into another setup.

Hi Jon I've got a great old
Mon, 2007/08/13 - 7:44pm — KierenHi Jon
I've got a great old English Vox AC 50 - its the version that's housed in a metal support frame which allows the speaker cabinet to swivel up and down and which supports the amp head (see http://www.voxshowroom.com/uk/amp/ac50st.html). Its a lovely amp and indeed it was my major gigging amp for at least 7 years. Unfortunately, at the moment, it's out of action and requires a fairly major service. I've also got a really weird US Vox solid state which I picked up because it was really cheap and I liked the look of it (but its crap) - see http://www.voxshowroom.com/us/amp/galaxie.html.
My main gigging amp now (without the TLSE) is a Fender 1964 "transitional" Bandmaster - the one with the 'blond' covering - see http://www.ampwares.com/ffg/bandmaster_bf.html. When I'm using the TLSE I'm using a Tech 21 Power Engine 60 - see http://www.tech21nyc.com/pe60.html
In terms of the current range of Vox Amps - they have certainly got better after a really low ebb in the 1980's. I would also recommend that when you go out testing amps you also have a look at the new JMI amps - see http://www.jmiamplification.com/h1.htm or Matchless Amps - see http://www.matchlessamplifiers.com/match00.html - as both the Matchless and the JMI's are based on the 1960's Vox Class A amp design - as is the modelled Vox amp sounds on the TSLE.

Some thoughts about the AC30CC + AC50CP is can they distort and go heavy with a pedal if you need to.
I know that the AC50CPH is meant to be high gain but I doubt it is tight in the low end.
