Overcoming TLSE's Shortcomings

riffboy76's picture

I thought we could use a thread discussing some of the TLSE's shortcomings and how we've "improvised" might be useful. A few of the more popular problems with the units and how i've made due:

problem: Comp/Overdrive/Wah all in one setting limiting the use of only one effect

solution: I use external effects within the effects loop. As the loop puts the effect at the beginning of the chain, i run mainly overdrives and a whammy in there.

problem: No EQ option for the TLSE output

solution: Apparently this has been fixed on the LE. But on my SE i have plans on running a modded Boss GE-7 on the output prior to the output hitting my amp. I havent acutally tried this yet so we'll see how it works.

Any other common problems with the TLSE? I'd have to say my biggest gripe is the Comp/Overdrive/Wah setting. Why they couldnt have seperate settings for these 3 is beyond me.

There was a discussion long

There was a discussion long ago about the short comings and you hit both of the top concerns on the head. using my Zoom G9 I can get pretty much the same tone and most effects so that does it for me when I split my signal to both units then stereo out to a mixer the possibilities are endless.

Ryan;
I agree with you, the compressor on the TLSE is not very good.
The unit is what it is, a decent modeling processor with a Vox flavor.
But Vox's support is pretty non- existent for the TLSE.
I think Big Blue will go the way of Hammond Organs in a few years to come: collectable and forums like these to learn/exchange tips.

I must admit my least

I must admit my least favorite effect on all modellers i've played (Podxt, TLSE, etc) are overdrive and distortions. While i really like the delays and some of the modulation effects I find the overdrives a bit too digital. I always use external overdrives with modelling units. Regarding the compression on the TLSE I havent been able to tweak a setting i'm happy with, I might have to throw down an external Comp too.
The one thing i think Vox nailed with regards to overall setup is how user friendly the settings are. I HATE having to scroll through menus to adjust settings on the fly.

Ditto. The distortion

Ditto. The distortion settings are horrible. I've not heard one that doesn't sound digital.
