My trusty old SM 57 bit the dust a few weeks ago.
I decided to try a Sennheiser e 906 guitar mic.
I miced my Atomic Reactor 112-50 and wow... what a difference.
It has three positions which allow you to adapt the mic for specific music styles:
1st: boosts the presence range, the mid frequency is 4.2 kHz, e.g. for aggressive metal rhythm guitars.
2nd: normal position for classic rock
3rd: attentuates the presence range, the mid frequency is 4 kHz, e.g. for warmth and smooth jazz/blues sound.
So far, so good.
if you are looking for a new mic, give this one a try.

Thanks for that review
Fri, 2007/07/06 - 9:15am — hamfistThanks for that review Steve,
I've been toying with the idea of buying a new microphone for ages. However, there always seems to be some other bit of "real" guitar gear that seems to take precedence !
Many others comment that the e906 is not necessarily "better" than the SM57, but is much, much easier to get good results from, and much less fussy about perfect positioning, compared to the 57. Does that fit with your experience so far ?

I like the fact that I can switch the Eq's on the mic.
I haven't played my Tele or Gibson thru it yet.
I'm a huge Shure mic user... since the 1970's.
So this was a new thing for me.
I didn't want to send in the SM 57 back to Shure for repair at this time. It may cost me $65.00 to do so, when you can buy a new SM 57 for $99.00
I'm taking the weekend off from playing, so I'll need to wait until next week to post a recording of the mic with my Atomic.
Oh yeah.. the Sennheiser is very directional... more than the Shure.

I've been thinking about a new mic for my amp. Looking forward to your test. Can you borrow another 57 to compare? Also, check this out...pretty interesting.

How do you like the mic so far? Have you recorded anything yet?

I am liking this mic a lot so far.
I haven't had time to bring my Mac into our stage to record.
This week I'm playing acoustic, so the TLSE & Atomic is taking a break.
I'll do my best to attempt a recording.
