Here's an attempt to replicate the lead guitar sound on Coldplay's X+Y album...the solo part's seem pretty solid although the chords are not as crunchy as I would like...I am running through a Crate Vintage Club 20 and I like to turn all the tone knobs to zero and tweak the gain to my liking.
Enjoy

Congratulations sir, You are
Wed, 2007/06/06 - 10:51am — hamfistCongratulations sir, You are a most educated and tasteful gentleman. Most of your fellow countrymen won't have a clue who Coldplay (one of the very best bands on the planet) are.
I think Jonny B's tones are hard to copy. They seem very "processed". I've never even actually played one of their tunes, mainly coz I've never played with a vocalist who could do the songs justice.
I will have a listen to X&Y again, and I'll have a look at your tlp. To be honest, an mp3 of your tone, actually in action, would be much better.
Also, sounds like your amp might be a big factor in your tone !!

Which country are you
Wed, 2007/06/06 - 12:19pm — HKornfeldWhich country are you talking about?
Coldplay is very well known in the U.S. They are over-played here in the states, to the point where their singles have gone from interesting to annoying. They are a good band, but too much of anything is never a good thing.
We are aware of more British culture than you might think, hamfist. We know about Borat, David Beckham, Earl Grey Tea, the Spice Girls, Montey Python, and I have even heard of the cockney singer/rapper The Streets. I am just joking with you, hamfist. It was my intent to sound humorous, not obnoxious. Hope you chuckle.
Yes HKornfield, I'm a
Wed, 2007/06/06 - 1:55pm — hamfistYes HKornfield, I'm a sarcastic bugger. I didn't quite realise Coldplay were so well known over there. I am truly shocked that you have heard of "the streets" (what a ridiculous name !). BTW, check the spelling on one of your British icons !!
Also, BTW, David Beckham is an absolutely top bloke, who is very, very, very good at football ("soccer" to you lot !). Although I guess you'll you'll be getting a bit sick of hearing his name over the next few years. Give him a chance, he's amazingly honest and straightforward, considering how unbelievably rich and famous he is. Does a lot of good for charitable causes too.
Oh, and I'm a coffee drinker myself !
