The VOX ToneLab Patch Exchange

Admin's picture

Our purpose is to provide ToneLab users with a centralized community to exchange patches, tips, tricks and experiences.

Please feel free to join, and submit your patches. Try to be as detailed as you can with your descriptions. If you're uploading a single patch, and you can make a recording of what the patch sounds like (mp3 only), that would be great. Also, let us know what kind of other equipment you're using (guitar, amp, other effects, etc.). All of that info can be added to your user profile under "My account".

You're always welcome to download any patches that strike your interest. You can rate patches with a simple five-star system. If you use them in the studio or on stage, post a comment, and let us know how things go.

If you find us useful, tell your friends; help us build our community.

That said, bear with us. We're a work in progress. We'll try to keep adding features as much as we can.

I look forward to hearing from all of you and trying out all the patches you submit.

If you're unfamiliar with the ToneLab SoundEditor, your can get started with our setup tutorial: "How to Set Up Your ToneLabSE SoundEditor (PC)."

Button problems

Hello to all from Greece!

It's the first time I'm writting here and-sadly-it's about a problem I'm facing with my Tonelab SE.
I use it onstage wherever I'm playing and I'm very gentle with it not only because theese things are sensitive but because I'm also in love with it!
The problem is that my No 4 programm button is not operating anymore as well as the A/B chanell switch button. If I press the FX on/off switch at another programm the LED's in those two buttons are lit but when I press them they do nothing. To tell the truth when I first got the SE in my hands I found it an exeptional constructed heavy duty board although I had my doubts about those silver buttons...

Anyone with the same problem?
If somebody has an idea of what can I do to fix it before I'll send it to an official service person would be appreciated.

Alex

Re:

Those buttons are only plungers that operate simple SPST push button switches on the PC board inside. While I haven't had any problems with mine, and I haven't heard about any problems with others, this type of switch is a bit prone to failure. All switches have a limited and clearly defined lifespan. Could be that you've used those buttons so much that they've simply expired.

I've opened mine up, but I don't recall if they're DIP (pins go through the board) or surface mount (pins are soldered to the top surface).

If they're DIP, it should be easy to find a replacement at Mouser.com, and solder it on yourself.

If you don't have electronics experience, DO NOT DO THIS YOURSLEF.

If you feel you cannot handle replacing a PC mount switch, or if the switch is surface mount, you should refer to a local, qualified service technician. If that's not available, contact VOX, and see if they have a repair department.

G’day Admin - I just

G'day Admin - I just noticed when I signed in to this website that I'm now on display as one of the users, so I'll introduce myself as an ex pro muso fro OZ who's probably got lots of little tricks & comments on some of your users queries. I live on a tiny South Pacific Island now so am only playing part time these days. Bought the TLSE a few months ago to replace my Pod V2 with footpedal which I've given to my son in Australia - now he wants my TLSE - it's a wonderful machine.
He can buy his own! I've had many pedals and stompboxes over the years including my favourite used to be the various Roland Boss range especially the verious ME mulitifunction versions - great units but the TL knocks'em dead.
I wish I had a unit like this years ago. So far I've been very happy with it although I have not had too much time to learn all about it. I've just robbed all the patches I can get from the users and am about to set about learning all about it. I'll keep in touch over the next few months as I learn all about this thing and maybe make up a few patches of my own resembling some of the older players that some of your younger fellas might like.
Great Website mate - keep up the good work.

Good to have you, Sgt. Dean.

Good to have you, Sgt. Dean. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

I'm curious, does the Pod have the kind of patch-exchanging capabilities the TLSE has, and does it have an online community like this one?

Yes the pod has the same

Yes the pod has the same patch exchanging capabilities as the TLSE. There's a user group site - hundreds of patches. It's obviously been going a lot longer. I'm not sure if it's actually maintained by Line 6 or by an independent such as yourself, but it seems very well supported by Line 6 and all of their users.
Before I bought my TLSE I actually did the research as to whether the Vox unit had the same capabilities as my old pod. The patch ex-changing capability is the one of the reasons why I chose the TLSE over it's next competitor (the Boss equivilant which doesn't have it). I wanted the ability to program it from my computer and exchange with a usergroup. It's the best way of learning how to use any instrument - communicate with other interested users.
The pod is a great unit but the TLSE is a much better unit for on-stage use. The pod and it's optional foot pedal virtually have to assembled before you can play your set - not good for yout typical muso who just wants to plug in, play his(or her)set and get off stage quick.
That's the beauty of the TLSE It IS the stomp box. Thow it on stage (er gently) cuppla leads into the amp or PA & you're away.

The TLSE sounds and sound quality are infinitely better, in my opinion, smoother and warmer - has to be the valve.
The pod doesn't seem to have that analogue warmth that the TLSE has
- personal opinion of course.

Oh and the name Sgt_Deano is a stage name of a silly character I play in a comedy theatre dinner show here on Norfolk Island - I'm not really a cop, I'm the manager of a tour & entertainment company
-it's a nick-name.

Hello Valex,

I'm on my second TLSE. The original had a bad No 3 program button--a bad switch like you are describing. Fortunately the dealer just swapped the whole unit out for me.

As your original post was from December, I was wondering if you have had it repaired and what that entailed?

Good luck, Geo.

Yes, I've had the same

Yes, I've had the same problem. On mine it was the Bank UP button. Currently I'm having an intermittent problem with my #2 button and the control button so I imagine they'll be going shortly. The problem is the PC mounted contact beneath the foot button. These apparently go bad over time. Fortunately they're not terribly expensive and you can get them through VOX or through the Mouser electronics catalag and have it replaced by a service tech.

Musicmanjake, "help you mix

Musicmanjake,

"help you mix a good sound?"

Here are your best two options:
1: Find a preset that you like and make changes to each of the parameters until you find what you like or,
2: Turn off all of the amp and effects (double click the button that is lit under each knob). Now scroll through all the amps until you find what you like, and repeat the process with each amp/cabinet/effect knob.

Good luck tweaking!

A complete scan didn't find anything either on mine.

Realtime protection complained, but when I ran a scan afterwards (since realtime scan said removal was partially successful only) it didnt find anything.

Actually it did not complain this time when I came here.

From the risk history: look for a file ~.exe in windows\system32\, and delete your temporary internet files.

After downloading all of the patches successfully and having setup tonelab (as per instructions) I cannot open downloaded tlp files. Everything else is running as it should, but when I choose to open a file from within Tonelab editor I get the navigation window as per normal. However when navigating to and opening the folder where I downloaded the patches to, none of the files show up so I'm unable to open anything. I notice that the file type within the navigation window states File type tllp with no option to view tlp files. I was wondering if the extra l in the extension letters would explain why I can't view the downloaded files.
Does anyone know how to rectify this problem?

mself61's picture

It sure is different Zed...

It sure is different Zed... , .tllp files are for the TLLE and .tlp files are for TLSE, so it sounds like you have the LE and are trying to view SE patches.

I have had this problem

I have had this problem once, a tech showed me after we opened it up that it is a hairline separation on the solder connection on the circuit board where the button is. He just added more solder to the connection point and did it for the rest of the connections as well. Check that first.
